As a hockey coach in Fort Saskatchewan for the past nine years and as a player who progressed through the Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey system I have faced one constant challenge throughout my career - skill development.  With limited ice time, inadequate resources and the demands of balancing team systems with individual tactics it is essentially an insurmountable task to spend the appropriate amount of time on each skill set in order to properly develop them.  NexXtep Skill Development has been formulated to remove these obstacles in order to concentrate solely on skill development and to assist players in reaching their hockey goals and aspirations.

NexXtep Skill Development is not designed to replace team practices, sports programs or other specialty camps but rather act as a compliment to these existing tools.  Our program is constructed to make use of available ice time that was previously left dormant in order to achieve maximum player development.  Our program is beneficial for all caliber of players at any age group and is intended for players that have a desire to reach the next level in their hockey career, whatever that level may be.  It is important to note that this is not a "learn to skate" program and participants must possess basic skating skills in order to execute the designed activities.

Our goal is to provide an atmosphere in which each player that attends the NexXtep Skill Development sessions has the best possible opportunity of improving their skill set.  We achieve this by limiting the number of participants in each session in order to provide proper instruction and allow players the proper amount of repetition in each activity.  The instructors also have elite level coaching and/or playing experience at both ends of the bench (forwards and defensemen) as well as specializing in goaltender instruction to ensure that each participant will benefit, regardless of position.  Our sessions are planned to be informative, challenging and perhaps most importantly fun for the players.
